Angle measure is preserved in a glide reflection.Distance is preserved in a glide reflection.Properties preserved (invariant) under a glide reflectionįollowing properties remain preserved in translation and reflection therefore also remain preserved in a glide reflection. Reflection and glide reflection are opposite isometry. From the four types of transformations translation, reflection, glide reflection, and rotation. Distance remains preserved but orientation (or order) changes in a glide reflection. Reflection transformation is an opposite isometry, and therefore every glide reflection is also an opposite isometry. Look at our example of this concept below.Īn opposite isometry preserves the distance but orientation changes, from clockwise to anti-clockwise (counter clockwise) or from anti-clockwise(counter clockwise) to clockwise. Whether you perform translation first and followed by reflection or you perform reflection first and followed by translation, outcome remains same.įor example, foot prints. Outcome will not affect if you reverse the composition of transformation performed on the figure. Commutative properties:Ī glide refection is commutative. Glide reflection occurs when you perform translation (glide) on a figure and followed by a reflection across a line parallel to the direction of translation. Glide reflections are essential to an analysis of symmetries. A glide reflection is – commutative and have opposite isometry. Glide reflection is the composition of translation and a reflection, where the translation is parallel to the line of reflection or reflection in line parallel to the direction of translation. Every point is the same distance from the central line after performing reflection on an object. Reflection means reflecting an image over a mirror line. Translation simply means moving, every point of the shape must move the same distance, and in the same direction. Therefore, Glide reflection is also known as trans-flection. First, a translation is performed on the figure, and then it is reflected over a line. Definition: A glide reflection in math is a combination of transformations in 2-dimensional geometry.

That approach was only going to be interesting for a short time, though, both for the actor and the audience. I would come in a couple of times each episode to kind of twist the scene a little bit and then leave. You got to watch him be really quite pitiful and at that point I was really, functionally and structurally, the wacky neighbour. They put a chip in my head, and that was really about watching someone be completely unplugged from his source of power. It was only when Spike became foolish and vulnerable and probably less sexy and less dangerous that Joss actually thought, ’Well, hey, this is a person who I can explore humanity with.’ So, when I came onto the show (full-time), they really highlighted a kind of toothless vampire. "It was watching that episode come together and seeing that I was really willing to embrace that side of the character that had Joss get interested in bringing me on as a regular. That guest shot was to provide the basis for a more permanent return to Buffy for Marsters. He was a drunken, heartbroken sod, really, when we saw him in season three, and I was just in one episode that season." He discovered Spike to be really quite pitiful. She was busy doing a movie and so Joss rewrote that episode to be more about Spike. Luckily for me and unfortunately for Juliet Landau, she was unavailable. "Joss often has some characters come back for an episode and so he planned an episode where Dru and Spike came back into town. My tenure was over and there were really no plans to come back," the actor admits. "What was that, season two? And that was it. Having survived the whole year, Marsters had thought his days as Spike were definitely numbered. But they didn’t, and I finished the season. I don’t think that they would’ve built him up that far if they hadn’t been planning to kill him. So, they built the character up as being extremely dangerous and extremely cool. The rest of us when we go to vampire are meant to frighten or meant to be loathsome, really. The only vampire to have his pretty face and his pointy teeth was Dracula himself. It’s one of the reasons why the vampires on the show are ugly. I progressed into a disposable villain, and I say disposable because in Joss’ universe, evil is not cool. I have a feeling that he would’ve killed me off as one of his first acts of evil villainy. That girlfriend was going to be Drusilla. Drusilla was the main character, I think, and I haven’t asked Joss this, but my sense is that Angel (David Boreanaz) was going to go bad after sleeping with Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and take a new girlfriend, as often happens in high school. I think that Spike was first designed to be a disposable boy toy for Drusilla (Juliet Landau). "I don’t know that he had the whole master arc worked out when he hired me or when he first developed the role on paper. "I’m not sure that Joss had a conscious plan for Spike," says Marsters, referring to Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon, the man who hired him, turned him into a regular, killed him off and then rehired him. It’s been a long journey for Spike, one which actor James Marsters was happy to relive for dreamwatch as he spoke in tremendous detail about Spike’s arc over the course of his days on Buffy. That’s to say that Spike died in Chosen, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series finale, but before that episode culd even air the WB announced that Marsters - and Spike - would pick up stakes and move over to Angel, which the network renewed for a fifth season. James Marsters was dead when this interview took place, but now he’s merely in limbo. I never thought Buffy should reciprocate." "I thought it’s be interesting, if he had a real psychological reason to want to reform, to watch they guy choose to be good and how frustrating that could be. Undead Spike is now really dead, having bought the big one on Buffy finale Chosen, but James Marsters is back in action on the new season of ANGEL. Paste : Best for older or worn-out surfaces, paste wax takes a bit of extra effort for an even coat. They usually are applied via a spray bottle and microfiber towel or applicator pad, but do not last as long as paste or liquid waxes due to their thinner texture. Spray : Vehicle owners who want a quick and easy shine between washes tend to be more partial toward spray-on waxes.Creams, sprays, and other blended formulas fall into this category. When applied correctly, this wax works exceptionally well on new or well-kept vehicles. Liquid : These are popular for their ease of use and sensitivity to car paint. They can be more durable than carnauba waxes and perform well in harsh environments.īetween the two bases, car waxes are offered in a variety of textures that have different benefits. Synthetic : Unlike carnauba waxes, these are a mixture of synthetic polymers developed for higher performance than natural alternatives. It’s well-suited for smoothing out light scratches and preventing swirl marks. Carnauba : A natural hard wax produced by Brazilian palm trees, this wax offers great protection against heavy UV exposure and rainfall.Black car waxes are designed specifically to meet these needs that other car waxes may not be as suited for.Ĭar waxes are generally made from one of two bases: This paint tends to show scratches, dirt, dust, and water more than any other color and needs higher UV protection since it absorbs more sunlight. Unlike other paints, black car paint is typically the hardest to keep looking like new. To a greater extent than most large platforms, Reddit allows and expects its groups to moderate themselves. Rather than prioritizing individual profiles, it emphasizes communities and their posts rather than presenting its users with simple chronological feeds or overwhelming them with algorithmic recommendations, it relies heavily on user feedback to rank content in the form of upvotes and downvotes. As similar as its underlying business model may be, Reddit feels different from its social-media competitors and contributes something different to the internet around it. It is, substantially, in the same business as Meta, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok - giving people something to use mostly for free in exchange for their monetizable time and attention.īut Huffman’s mixed metaphors do tell a story. It’s an advertising- and subscription-supported web service that also depends on free content and unpaid labor from its users. Reddit is not a feudal government, or a city in any sense neither is it ultimately “democratic,” as he frequently suggests. Huffman is stretching in a variety of directions here. He called the protesting moderators the “landed gentry” of the platform, the “people who get there first get to stay there and pass it down to their descendants, and that is not democratic.” In an interview with NBC News, Huffman accused volunteer moderators of subverting the true will of Reddit’s users, who he suggested increasingly sympathize with his position. And that free comes at the expense of our other users and our business. Why would we subsidize this small group? Why would we effectively pay them to use Reddit but not everybody else who also contributes to Reddit? Does that make sense? These people who are mad, they’re mad because they used to get something for free, and now it’s going to be not free. And we’re not undoing that business decision.” By the end of the conversation, he had left the “city” behind entirely:ĩ0-plus percent of Reddit users are on our platform, contributing, and are monetized either through ads or Reddit Premium. In an interview with the Verge, Huffman began by describing Reddit as “a platform built by its users” and compared it to a city: “We’re a platform and tech company on one hand, but on the other it’s a living organism, this democratic living organism, created by its users.” Pressed on the protest over the new API policy, though, he quickly turned: “That’s our business decision. In a leaked memo addressing the uproar, CEO Steve Huffman assured staffers that “like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well,” and that it hadn’t had a “significant revenue impact.” As the blackout has stretched on - some communities reopened after two days as they had initially planned, but many have remained closed - his tone has hardened. Now, its leadership needs that to change, and they’re running out of patience. In the process of becoming a pillar of online life, Reddit never turned a profit. Reddit’s position is that third-party apps, including popular Reddit browsers like Apollo that aim to improve the experience of using the site, cost the company money while undermining its business model and functioning as “competitors” - echoing Elon Musk’s justifications for a similar move at Twitter earlier this year. The blackout was organized in protest of Reddit’s plan to charge developers for access to its data, which could have the effect of killing a range of tools and apps used by Reddit’s volunteer moderators and some of its most devoted users and contributors. Remarkably, so did Google: As one of the internet’s biggest searchable repositories of content made by humans, including millions of user-generated questions and helpful answers, Reddit, which was started in 2005 as a link aggregator with the goal of being the “front page of the internet,” has become part of the search engine’s core infrastructure. In an instant, Reddit became less interesting and useful. On Monday, thousands of the largest communities on Reddit went private, effectively removing themselves from the site. Twenty One Pilots is the debut studio album by American band Twenty One Pilots, released independently on December 29, 2009. technical difficulties couldnt stop us from having a great show in Paraguay. “I think that I was perfectly fine before music, and then something happened where I just felt, like, a buildup of some sort. “I never would have turned to music if I didn’t feel like I need to work on something or change or cope with something,” Joseph told Apple Music. That honesty has earned the band a remarkably dedicated fanbase. Touring behind Blurryface, for example, he covered his neck and arms with black greasepaint on stage-a visualization of his insecurities. Formed in 2009 by high school friends Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih, Twenty One Pilots built an enormous regional following across Ohio and the Midwest, spurred on by constant and energetic touring, shrewd use of interactive social media, and connecting with fans on a grassroots level. It was mostly produced remotely, with Joseph and Dun working in separate studios.Ī practicing Christian, Joseph credits his faith-and the sustained internal dialogue that comes with it-as a source of inspiration, using his art as a platform to wrestle directly with his demons. The title of their next album, 2021's Scaled and Icy, was partially a reference to making music in the pandemic-scaled back and isolated. As a duo, they delved further into the idiosyncrasies of their sound-characterized by a minimal blend of keyboards, driving drums, and playful, self-probing lyrics-winning a Grammy in 2017 for their single “Stressed Out.” In 2018, they released their fifth LP, Trench, which featured the singles “Chlorine” and “My Blood” and was co-written with Mutemath’s Paul Meany. The band self-released two albums before making the leap to a subsidiary of Warner Music Group in 2012, shuffling ranks along the way before settling on singer-songwriter Joseph and drummer Josh Dun as its core members. Formed by friends Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih in Columbus, Ohio, the band took its name from Arthur Miller's play All My Sons, in which a contractor knowingly sends off faulty airplane parts to Europe during World War II, resulting in the death of 21 pilots. It features heavy topics such as struggling with sin, doubting God, mental health, as well as lighter. Twenty one pilots' cathartic, kitchen-sink style-which folds in alt-rock, reggae, electronic music, and rap-is one of the most unique, unclassifiable commercial sounds of the 2010s and '20s. Primarily written by Tyler, the album is arguably twenty one pilots most poetic work to date. |
